Youth Initiative for Human Rights – Kosovo is a non-governmental humanitarian and independent organization whose mission is to promote universal human rights among citizens of Kosovo.
Youth Initiative for Human Rights, apart from its in Kosovo, has regional offices situated in Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
YIHR KS engages in:
– Advocacy and promotion of Human Rights specifically:
– Promoting human rights through education, activism, campaigns, local and regional networking, and enhancing the critical thinking of youth;
– Contributing to strengthening the rule of law through documenting, reporting and advocating about legislation that impacts human rights of all;
– Empowering the process of dealing with the past by new links between young people in the region of the Western Balkans.
The project “Empowerment of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian Communities” as an overall objective has to increase public oversight toward minorities’ policies in Kosovo through involvement and activation of youth from Roma, Ashkalia and Egyptian Communities in pre, during and post-electoral processes in Kosovo in Municipalities of Prishtina, Fushë Kosova, Ferizaj, Gjakova and Prizren.
The project aims to promote the principles of equality, human rights, rule of law and democracy by conducting a series of activities to support the informed and free of threats vote right of the Roma, Ashkalia and Egyptian, to empower the community to perform self-monitoring of the elections and minimize the misuse of Roma, Ashkalia and Egyptian votes as well as to secure further opportunities to for the community to hold the elected persons accountable.
Through implementation of this project YIHR KS has achieved larger number of minorities participating in political and public life especially participation of Roma, Ashkalia and Egyptian youth voters in electoral processes that will increase Institution accountability towards the citizens is enhanced and takes place systematically regarding the economic, social, health, employment, human rights and education issues.
